Welcome Address

Dear Workshop Participants,
Dear Colleagues,

It will be our great personal pleasure to welcome you to Berlin on the occasion of the 55th Inner Ear Biology Workshop (September 6 – 8, 2018). This Workshop has over half a century tradition of gathering researchers and clinicians interested in the inner ear issues. Over the years we have learned a lot and based on this knowledge, an enormous technical progress has been made in the hearing aid technology. Inner ear-specific proteins such as prestin, pendrin or otoferlin have been discovered and characterized, but we still do not know enough about them.

In other words, there is a plenty of room for improvements and further research. However, each answer we obtain generates at least three further questions. As Chairs of the IEB 2018, we would like to encourage you to participate in our meeting in order to answer some of these new questions. We will focus on the physiology, pathology and therapies of the inner ear. Excellent keynote speakers will give stimulating talks which will lay a ground for discussions and contribute to further translational research and innovative treatment. Hands-on workshops can be used by those of you, who want to deepen your practical skills. You yourself will have opportunity to present your newest findings during numerous oral and poster session.

We are confident that together, we will make the IEB 2018 a memorable event.

Looking forward to seeing you in Berlin!
